TRIREME publishes Automotive Skills Agenda Strategy & Outlook

The TRIREME project has released the Automotive Skills Agenda Strategy & Outlook, a new European framework to support skills development in the automotive-mobility ecosystem. Developed under Erasmus+ as part of the Pact for Skills, the Strategy aims to improve coordination and scale up solutions to address emerging skills needs across the sector.

Europe’s automotive-mobility ecosystem is undergoing rapid transformation, driven by digitalisation, decarbonisation, automation, and artificial intelligence. These changes are reshaping job roles and creating both skills shortages and mismatches across the value chain, while education and training systems face increasing pressure to keep pace.

The Strategy responds to these challenges by providing a shared framework to align skills intelligence, training provision, workforce transition measures, and funding. It also seeks to reduce fragmentation and support cooperation across stakeholders at European, national, and regional levels.

Structured around five key areas and ten actions, the Strategy covers the full skills ecosystem — from anticipating future skills needs to delivering training, supporting workforce transitions, and improving skills recognition. A central initiative is the Future Mobility Academy, designed to help scale and connect training efforts across Europe.

The Strategy also highlights the importance of STEM education, career guidance, and lifelong learning to support job mobility and ensure a steady pipeline of talent. Strengthening skills recognition, including through micro-credentials, is identified as a key enabler for flexibility and cross-border employability.

Looking ahead, the Strategy underlines that skills will play a decisive role in Europe’s ability to remain competitive and innovative. As technological change accelerates, more agile, coordinated, and forward-looking approaches to skills development will be essential.
