TRIREME Reveals Key Skills Challenges in Automotive-Mobility

TRIREME has released the second deliverable under the Work Package on Skills Intelligence Gathering.

The deliverable, “Sectoral Skills Intelligence – Release I” (D2.2), presents a comprehensive study highlighting the main challenges facing the automotive-mobility ecosystem in late 2024 and throughout 2025. The sector is experiencing pressures from profitability contraction, intensifying global competition, the transformation of traditional business models, increasing European regulatory requirements, and critical raw material shortages driven by geopolitical tensions.

The study also explores the implications of these challenges for skills and occupational profiles. Technical competencies, along with innovation and design capabilities, are increasingly essential for the workforce to navigate these changes. Upskilling and reskilling programmes are identified as strategic priorities, helping workers manage transitions and adapt to evolving roles.

Finally, the report emphasises the role of EU initiatives, corporate strategies, and regional programmes in aligning education and training systems with the sector’s rapidly changing needs.
