First TRIREME Skills Cards Set to Launch: Shaping the Future of Automotive Skills
TRIREME is preparing to release, in October 2025, the first set of Skills Cards, a new tool designed to capture how professional roles in the automotive sector are evolving in response to digitalisation, sustainability, and new business models.
The Skills Cards are structured reference documents that describe emerging job profiles in the sector. Each card offers a clear overview of the role, outlines key responsibilities, and maps competences across categories such as Green, Digital, Transversal, Soft Skills, and Sector-Specific skills. The Skills Cards reflect how new roles contribute to the key trends shaping the industry: Digitalisation(Industry 4.0/5.0), Green Sustainability & Circular Economy, Resilience of Value Chains, and New Business Models. They are also aligned with the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) and ESCO classifications, ensuring international comparability.
By providing a detailed picture of new and changing professions, the Skills Cards can be used by a wide range of stakeholders. Companies can identify competencies, adapt recruitment strategies, and plan training for future needs. Training providers such as VET organisations and universities can update curricula and design competence-based programmes that respond quickly to market changes. National agencies and policymakers can align education and training strategies with labour market priorities, while the general public - including students, workers, and jobseekers - can use the cards as a career orientation tool.
The development of the Skills Cards followed a structured methodology to ensure robustness and quality. This process included data collection and analysis through surveys, reviews, and workshops; AI-supported profiling to extract professional competences; distribution of roles across TRIREME partners; and a standardisation phase to align with European frameworks. Each card underwent a two-level review, both internally and externally, to guarantee accuracy and relevance. If necessary, a final remapping step will further refine the cards, ensuring they capture the depth of emerging roles.
With the upcoming release of the first set of Skills Cards, TRIREME takes a major step toward supporting the automotive sector in anticipating skills needs and preparing the workforce for the challenges of the green and digital transition.
Stay tuned for the launch of the first TRIREME Skills Cards and explore the future of automotive skills.
