TRIREME Workshop Explores the Future of Automotive Skills in Europe

On 9 September, Sistemi Formativi Confindustria, partner of the TRIREME project, organised a strategic workshop in the heart of the Italian Motor Valley, in collaboration with CIS – Unindustria Reggio Emilia. The event gathered representatives from leading automotive companies, training institutions, and the Confindustria Delegation to the European Union, which provided an institutional perspective connected to the European Commission’s Pact for the Automotive Industry.

The workshop offered participants access to updated data and analysis prepared by SPIN 360, a TRIREME partner, which highlighted key sector dynamics. The discussions focused on the transformation of the automotive ecosystem, where digitalisation, green innovation, and software-driven mobility demand new skills and approaches.

Among the priorities that emerged were:
• Transforming SMEs: Preparing the value chain for products where software and digital components are increasingly decisive.
• Updating training: Responding to a radical redefinition of skills within the automotive sector.
• Innovating certification: Developing tools to support talent search, worker integration, and targeted training.
• Strengthening collaboration: Continuing the TRIREME Erasmus+ Blueprint’s role in shaping mobility scenarios and engaging in dialogue with partners such as CIS, the Confindustria Delegation to the European Union, and the Automotive Skills Alliance.

The workshop underscored that the European Commission is prioritising “Made in Europe” strategies for electric vehicles to safeguard value creation and employment. A central question remains: which skills will be most decisive for the automotive sector in the next five years?
